Product Notes

Hirsch Vineyards San Andreas Fault Pinot Noir exudes elegant complexity, mirroring the iconic Californian faultline it's named after. It unveils an extraordinary blend of red fruit aromas, underpinned delicately by layers of earthy tones. On the palate, it boasts an exquisite balance of crisp acidity, mature tannins, and sumptuous forest fruit flavours, rounded off with a lightly spiced finish. This Californian pinot noir dares to tread the line between opulence and austerity, resulting in a captivating, memorable drinking experience. A testament to the diverse terroir of the Sonoma Coast, it's a must-try for dedicated wine connoisseurs.

Tasting Notes

As with the other Hirsch Pinot Noirs of this vintage, the 2020 San Andreas is notable for its dark fruit and serious structure. The wine opens with notes of elderberry, blackberry, fresh red plums, and dried cherries. With air, notes of five spice, chai tea and dried orange peel emerge. The overall impression is exotic and reminiscent of our coastal redwood forests. The palate is juicy upon opening with, firm, chewy tannins. With air, the fruit gains weight and the palate fills out, balancing the tannins. The structure and dark fruit of the 2020s remind us of the exceptional 2012 and 2015 vintages. This is a savory and intellectual year that will reward the patient drinker.

About the Winery

Hirsch Vineyards

Perched atop the rugged hills of Sonoma County in California, Hirsch Vineyards is a beacon of viticultural excellence. Synonymous with award-winning Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, the vineyard stands as an unabashed testament to the art of winemaking.

The captivating story of Hirsch Vineyards began in 1978, when David Hirsch, seeing potential in the untamed terrain of the Sonoma coast, purchased the land. With enormous love for the vines and a dedication to soil and climate, David transformed the wild hillside into a vineyard that is now known for its refined, terroir-driven wines.

The vineyard is spread across a sprawling 72 acres with each plot, carefully chosen and delineated based on factors ranging from elevation to sun exposure. The result? Wines with a rich mosaic of flavours and aromas, echoing the complexity of the land from which they are born.

Moreover, Hirsch Vineyards adhere to mindful farming methods, focusing on nurturing the soil's fertility naturally to yield grapes of exceptional quality. Through organic practices and biodynamic principles, the vineyard is committed to sustaining the land for future generations.

However, what truly sets Hirsch Vineyards apart is the family behind it. With David Hirsch as the family patriarch, his daughter Jasmine and son-in-law Michael now gracefully carry forward his legacy. Their, profound respect for the land, coupled with their insatiable passion for winemaking, is truly tangible in each glass of Hirsch wine.

Undeniably, Hirsch Vineyards encapsulates the potent magic of the Sonoma coast: wild, dramatic, yet imbued with a certain tenderness. If you haven't yet experienced the grandeur of Hirsch Vineyards, a tasting journey among their vine-covered hills is wholeheartedly recommended; trasporting you into a world of superior wine indulgence.
