Product Notes
Spier Frans K. Smit Red Blend wine is an impeccably distinctive varietal hailing from the revered Spier vineyards of South Africa. Possessing a rapturous deep ruby hue, this blend amalgamates the richness of Cabernet Sauvignon with robust Merlot and a smattering of Petit Verdot. Exquisite notes of sun-ripened blackcurrants, raspberries, and nuanced undertones of mocha captivate the palate, whilst a subtle wisp of cigar box adds depth. Aging in French oak exudes sophistication, lending a velvety smooth finish. A wine of prodigious calibre, it artfully personifies the skill of its namesake winemaker, Frans K. Smit.
Tasting Notes
The 2017 Red was made with grapes handpicked on the slopes of Helderberg — arguably the best place in South Africa to grow Bordeaux varietals. Forming 50% of the blend, majestic, mysterious Cabernet Sauvignon takes centre stage, with stellar Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot providing aroma and structure in memorable supporting roles. Offering dark fruits presence and traces of cigar box with tannins that are firm but amiably rounded.
