Bodegas Ondarre are a cooperative [belonging to the Bodegas Olarra Group] who were founded in 1986 in Viana in Rioja Oriental, close to Logrono, considered the capital of Rioja. Their goal was to showcase the distinct terroirs of the region. They have formed strong relationships with their growers and produce modern style Riojas from their vineyards planted on the northern hill of the Rioja Valley at 500 metres above sea level. These are small old vineyard sites with low-yielding vines planted on varied soils. At Ondarre they use advanced vinification technology whilst maintaining respect for traditional methods. They employ both French and American oak to ferment and age their elegant wines and they continually invest in their barrel stock. Ondarre have achieved their goal, their award-winning wines have attained world-wide acclaim: wines which express the diversity and typicality of the soils of their region.
