David & Nadia

David Sadie was born and bred in Swartland and studied viticulture and oenology at the University of Stellenbosch. It was here that he met a dynamic Australian called Nadia who was studying soil science and viticulture – they studied together and later tied the knot in 2009.
They made their first wine in 2010 while still employed by their previous employers, but with a clear long-term ambition. The David & Nadia project became a full-time reality when David finally downed tools at his former job in 2013, and Nadia joined him permanently at the beginning of 2016, just in time to bring in the harvest - and the rest as they say is history. This successful young husband and wife team, are now one of the top wine producers in the Swartland and regarded amongst the most exciting producers in South Africa. The David & Nadia winery on their Paardebosch farm produces an exciting range of wines through a combination of attentive biological viticulture that works to nurture and restore old Swartland bush vines with a “hands-off” minimal approach to winemaking, and the confidence to eschew irrigation wherever possible. They are members of the Swartland Independent Producers.
Approximately half of the grapes that David & Nadia work with come from their Paardebosch farm, and the rest are sourced from other farms, all situated in the Swartland and focusing on different soil types, mountain terrain, and a spectrum of organic, mostly old and dry land bush vine vineyards.Their philosophy is that wine is all about natural balance, purity, and freshness – believing that these qualities can only be rightfully expressed when the soil and vineyards are respected.
Exemplifying South Africa’s recent wine revolution on the three most important fronts: quality, quantity and diversity, becoming a Platter’s five-star producer in the process, there can be no doubt that David & Nadia will have a major role in redefining and elevating the wines and reputation of the Western Cape in the years to come. Routinely tipped as one to watch by all the leading critics and held in the same company as their exalted Swartland neighbours Eben Sadie and Chris Mullineaux, David & Nadia is for the time being still an under-the-radar estate in the UK. THE DAVID & NADIA RANGE – using grapes from the whole of Swartland representing its soils, vineyards and people. Wines include:
Chenin Blanc -which focuses on various old vine vineyards planted between 1962 and 1982.
Grenache - where the core of the wine comes from one of Paardeberg’s sustainably farmed vineyards planted in the early 2000’s.
Aristargos - an intriguing white blend made from Chenin Blanc, Clairette Blanche, Sémillon, Roussanne, Viognier and Marsanne.
Elpidios – a red blend made from Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault and Pinotage.
