Azienda Agricola Nicolis was founded in 1951 by Angelo Nicolis in San Pietro in Cariano, in the heart of the Valpolicella region of the Veneto. Initially Angelo just made wine for his family but decided to transform his passion into a business. He became an accomplished winemaker and one of the leading producers in the region known for the typicity and quality of his wines. Angelo passed on his passion to his sons who continue the family business with Giuseppe meticulously managing the vineyards and Giancarlo making the wine, traditionally and authentically with great care. San Pietro in Cariano is one of the five “classic” villages of Valpolicella, north-east of Verona.
They farm close to 40 hectares of vineyards which include some of the region’s finest sites for Amarone, cultivating Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara, Croatina and Dindarella. The grapes are hand-picked and they utilise native yeasts for fermentation. Slavonian oak barrels and Tonneaux are used for ageing the wines. Nicolis craft the whole range of the Valpolicella spectrum, from bright and fruity Classico, richer Classico Superiore Ripasso, magnificent dry “vino da meditazione” Amarone, and decadent sweet Ricioto. In Valpolicella, this “valley of many wine cellars”, Nicolis is one to look out for.
