Although the family have been involved in agriculture for five centuries, through seventeen generations, Planeta did not plant their first vineyard until 1985. Pioneer of the Sicilian wine industry Diego Planeta died in 2020 but his children, Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, carry on the legacy. They are a young company with ancient roots. Planeta now own vineyards in five different areas of Sicily; Menfi, Vittoria, Noto, Etna, and most recently Capo Milazzo. Planeta grow a selection of indigenous and international grape varieties, planted to the specifics of each terroir. The vineyards are farmed sustainably, linking traditional and organic viticulture and have had SOSTAIN certification since 2015. Planeta produced their first wine in 1995 - a Chardonnay, a wine for which they are now justifiably world famous: their Menfi Chardonnay is a classic wine and the flagship of their innovative range. Planeta have conducted in-depth research into ancient Sicilian grape varieties culminating in Cometa, the great white wine of Southern Italy. Elegant and powerful reds are also produced that will not disappoint red wine lovers. Then there are those extraordinary wines, both red and white, from Etna’s volcanic soils and the famous Cerasuolo Di Vittoria, Sicily’s only DOCG wine, is a delicious delight. Planeta are one of Sicily's top producers. They craft an impressive portfolio of wines from their diverse terroirs, each one with their own personality expressing the tipicity of the place where the grapes were cultivated. Whatever your tastes – Planeta offer something outstanding for every palate!
