Vigneti del Vulture
Vigneti del Vulture is produced by the Fantini Farnese Group. This is Italy's biggest boutique winery, established in 1994 by Filippo Baccalaro, Valentino Sciotti and Camillo de Luliis in the town of Ortona in the region of Abruzzo on Italy's central east coast. The group make wine in six regions of Italy and Vigneti del Vulture is their winery in Basilicata, which they took over in 2008. Basilicata is one of the smallest wine-growing regions in Italy and the vineyards of Vulture are almost exclusively around the slopes of the extinct volcano of the same name. Basilicata's topography is mostly mountains, home to some of the highest vineyards in Europe, with some planted over 1,000 metres above sea level. The fertile lava soils have an unmatched wealth of minerals, imbuing the grapes with a unique complexity. But not many grape varieties are suited to this cool and harsh untamed landscape. Here the white Greco and red Aglianico shine, creating fruity white wines and rich, full-bodied reds. These stunning wines capture the essence of this hidden gem of Italy, a singular style you will not find anywhere else.
