White grape variety primarily found in Italy, specifically Sardinia, also in Liguria where it is known as Pigato, in Piedmont where it is known as Favorita and in Corsica. In the Languedoc and Roussillon it has recently been permitted in many appellations, notably, Côtes du Roussillon.

In Sardinia a particularly celebrated example can be found in the DOCG Vermentino di Gallura (and Vermentino di Gallura Superiore) which is produced in the province of Olbia-Tempio, in the north. The wines are also used throughout Sardinia to make sweet and sparkling wines.
