Product Notes

Crafted with care in the acclaimed Priorat region of Spain, Scala Dei Massipa wine is a sumptuous blend of Grenache and Carignan varietals. It exhibits a robust nose of dark fruit, spice and subtle earthiness, and unfolds with layers of ripe cherries, blackberries and hints of chocolate on the palate. Ageing in oak barrels lends it a complex structure and satisfying depth of flavour, with a long, velvety finish. It's a rich, well-structured wine that is ideal for pairing with hearty dishes. Scala Dei Massipa truly showcases the unique character and sophistication of Spanish wines.

Tasting Notes

Beautiful stoned fruit and fennel seed aromas dominate the nose with subtle undertones of spice and flowers. The barrel aging brings texture, whilst the Chenin lifts the acidity to yield a wine of exceptional balance and elegance.

About the Winery

Scala Dei

Nestled in the scenic landscape of Priorat, Spain sits the remarkable Scala Dei winery. Founded in the twelfth century and steeped in history; the winery was initially run by Carthusian monks who made significant contributions to viticulture (the cultivation of grapevines) in the region. Today, this is among the oldest wineries in the locality and is celebrated for preserving this historic tradition.

Calendar-perfect vineyards drape the low mountains, covering nearly 70 hectares. The land is beautifully punctuated by olive trees and terraces of llicorella, the indigenous slate soils that lend the wines their unmistakable character.

Scala Dei specialises in producing single-vineyard wines, crafted meticulously from old-vine Garnatxa and Carinyena grapes, these wines exhibit the full essence of Priorat. The cellars craft each bottle with particular authenticity, attributing its unique quality to the region's mineral-rich soils and distinctive microclimate.

Inside; the winery combines traditional methods with modern technology to produce truly unique wines. One can tour the historic cellars and witness the labour of love that goes into each bottle – from the hand-harvesting of the grapes to the slow, careful fermentation process.

Visitors are not merely guests at Scala Dei, but participants in a remarkable journey through the region's wine history. The tasting experience is intimate and enriching, allowing one to savour the distinct nuances of each wine and appreciate the passion and commitment required in its making.

Scala Dei winery, while rooted in the antiquity of its origins, continues to innovate in winemaking, delivering wines that captivate the senses and celebrate the uniqueness of the Priorat terroir. Whether a seasoned wine connoisseur or a curious novice there's an unforgettable experience waiting amongst the vine-clad hills of this iconic institution.

Its meticulous cultivation techniques, historical allure, and commitment to exceptional quality have cemented Scala Dei's place as a front-runner in the world of wine.
