Tasting Note

This first release of the Hambledon Classic Cuvée Blanc de Blancs uses the superb 2018 vintage as its base. It has been maturing in cool cellars on its lees for more than four years, growing in complexity and balance all the while. Once in the glass, there is an immediate sensation of freshness, and the quality of the Chardonnay fruit shines through, with lovely notes of creamy apple and quince, and enhanced by the delicious scents and textures of brioche and subtle vanilla which have been created by the extended time spent ageing in bottle before release.

Product Notes

Hambledon Vineyard Blanc de Blancs is an exquisite English sparkling wine, epitomising the Hampshire terroir where it is grown. Crafted solely from Chardonnay grapes, this wine offers a delightful blend of citrus and brioche notes on the nose, complemented by a rich minerality and crisp apple on the palate. The wine's inviting freshness is balanced by a subtle creaminess, thanks to its time spent maturing on lees. Pale gold in colour and boasting a beautifully elegant bead of delicate bubbles, the Hambledon Vineyard Blanc de Blancs presents a sophisticated and vibrant expression of classic Blanc de Blancs.

About the Winery

Hambledon Vineyard

Hambledon Vineyard is a quintessentially British winery, nestled in Hampshire's charming countryside. It holds the magnificent distinction of being England's oldest commercial vineyard, originally established in 1952 by the influential visionary Major General Sir Guy Salisbury-Jones. Despite numerous changes in management, the vineyard's commitment to producing exquisite English wine has remained unwavering.

In 1999, the renowned vineyard was acquired by Ian Kellett, a wine passionate economist based in London. Upon realising the potential in Hambledon's chalky soils, similar to produce quality of that in France's Champagne region, Ian decided to completely modernise the vineyard with the aim of producing the finest English sparkling wine.

The present-day vineyard prides itself on crafting premium wines that express the unique terroir of the Hambledon slopes. Their portfolio consists primarily of sparkling wines; the Classic Cuvee, Classic Cuvee Rosé, and the Premier Cuvee. Each wine is a high-quality blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Noir grapes, which are grown, harvested, and produced on the estate. They also offer a limited edition, still white wine – the Hambledon Vineyard Bacchus which is becoming increasingly popular amongst wine connoisseurs.

Not only is the vineyard committed to producing excellent wines, but it also boasts an interactive visitor’s centre. Here, guests can immerse themselves in the intricate process of winemaking, the unique history of Hambledon, and—of course—indulge in wine tastings.

Hambledon Vineyard reflects the undeniable evolution of English winemaking, championing the industry's potential by persistently striving for quality, and carving out a reputable name on the international stage. It is a place where the love for the land, the passion for wine and the respect for tradition and innovation are blissfully intertwined.

Hambledon Vineyard summarises an important piece of English wine history and it's continuous journey of evolution and excellence.
