Grenache Blend

Grenache blend will typically be comprised of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Tempranillo, and Cinsault. It is one of the certified grapes in the red wines of Châteauneuf du Pape, along with Cinsaut, Counoise, Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, Muscardin, Piquepoul Noir, Syrah, Terret Noir, and Vaccarèse (Brun Argenté). For white and pink varieties the permitted grapes are Bourboulenc, Clairette Blanche, Clairette Rose, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Picardan, Piquepoul Blanc, Piquepoul Gris, and Roussanne.
It is late ripening, and will generally produce wines with high alcohol and spicy berry notes, it is due to its tendency to lack tannin, acid and colour that it is so often blended with Syrah.
