Product Notes

Domaine Arretxea Hegoxuri is an exceptional French aromatic white wine from the Irouléguy region. The wine is derived from Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng, and Petit Courbu grape varieties, providing a unique blend of flavours. The richness and freshness balance beautifully, generating intense flavours of apple, honey, and exotic fruits. The wine has a captivating gold hue and a robust body that embodies both sweet and tart elements perfectly. Its discreet acidity and spicy aftertaste adds complexity. The winemakers, the Riouspeyrous family, have cultivated the vineyards organically since 1989, ensuring top-quality yield every season. This wine is a well-crafted delight for connoisseurs.

About the Winery

Domaine Arretxea

Nestled in the heart of Basque country, Domaine Arretxea winery paints a picture of natural splendour and winemaking tradition. This family-owned enterprise, situated in the French Pyrenees, is renowned for its commitment to biodynamic farming methods, thus preserving the environment, whilst crafting exquisite wines.

Founded by Michel and Thérèse Riouspeyrous in 1989, Domaine Arretxea boasts six hectares of vineyard land, compartmentalised into small individual parcels reflecting the unique terroir. Here, indigenous Irouléguy grape varieties thrive, including Tannat, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng.

The Riouspeyrous family's dedication to biodynamic farming is truly inspiring. Every phase of the vinification process is regulated by the lunar and cosmic cycles, and absolutely no artificial chemicals are used in the vineyards. The soil consists largely of schist and chalky clay, enhancing the minerality and freshness of the wines produced.

Their wines are a testament to rigorous traditional methods and meticulous attention to detail. Domaine Arretxea produces a palate-enticing variety such as powerful yet elegant reds, and aromatic, complex whites. However, it's the Heidi and Sandra cuvées, named after their daughters, which have become much sought after by wine connoisseurs worldwide.

Each bottle leaving Domaine Arretxea carries an essence of this extraordinary land and echoes the passion of the Riouspeyrous family's reverence for nature and tradition. It offers wine enthusiasts a taste of the extraordinary, embodied within its unique terroir and biodynamic approach – it’s a true celebration of the Irouléguy wine appellations' character.

With great wine inevitably comes recognition. Domaine Arretxea wines have frequently been praised by international wine critics, like the prestige Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Winning a string of awards that applaud the vineyard’s dedication to quality and environmental stewardship.

Domaine Arretxea, unrelenting in their devotion to the earth and vines, and the exceptional wines they offer are a testament to the Riouspeyrous family's integration of both tradition and nature in their wine-making process,
