Oseleta

Oseleta

Oseleta is a native Italian grape variety that traces its roots back to the enchanting region of Veneto, Italy. This once rare and nearly extinct varietal has been given a new lease of life thanks to the dedicated efforts of local viticulturists to protect and conserve indigenous vines. History of Oseleta dates back to the 1800s, but it was largely forgotten until the 1980s when both researchers and winemakers embarked on a mission to revive this historical grape variety.

Oseleta is now nurtured in the vineyards of Verona, primarily used in the production of bold, high-quality red wines. Its robust structure and powerful, assertive tannins make it a perfect blending partner for other local varieties such as Corvina and Rondinella, contributing to the complexity and depth of classic wines like Amarone and Valpolicella.

The grape boasts a unique flavour profile, exuding notes of dark fruit like blackberry, whilst maintaining certain spiciness and a hint of cacao. The resulting wine is renowned for its high tannin content, offering an intense, mouth-gripping sensation. Due to its strong characteristics, oseleta-based wine pairs perfectly with hearty meals such as roast oddrich, venison, or matured cheeses.

When aged, the Oseleta wine develops impressive longevity, its complexity and concentration deepening over several years, hence appealing to those who enjoy long cellaring times.

Though still somewhat uncommon, the re-emergence of the Oseleta grape is a testament to the diversity of Italy's viticulture. For wine enthusiasts with a penchant for bold, complex flavours, a bottle of wine made from Oseleta is surely a distinctive addition to their collection. As the world of wine continues to evolve, it's exciting to anticipate that the future may witness a wider international recognition for this historic and captivating grape variety.
