Tinto Fino

The Tinto Fino grape, a commonly misrepresented varietal, is native to Spain and predominantly grown in the famous wine-growing region, Ribera del Duero. Known internationally as Tempranillo, a name derived from ‘temprano’ – Spanish for ‘early’ – referring to its early ripening characteristic, Tinto Fino is however distinct in its genetic traits and viticultural behaviour.

The Tinto Fino grape is the starring role in Spain's prestigious Ribera del Duero wines, enjoys a continental climate, high altitude vineyards and limestone-infused soils, producing wines of considerable depth and merit. The thinner skins of these grapes are gifted with higher concentration of flavour inducing tannins that contribute to the overall structure and complexity of the wines they produce.

This grape is known for producing full-bodied and seriously structured reds, with potential for long ageing. Flavour profiles often reveal dark berry notes, alongside the typical tobacco, vanilla and leather traits that Tempranillo is famous for, often enhanced by oak ageing, a process traditionally employed in Ribera del Duero.
