This will contain predominantly Touriga Nacional along with other varieties orignating from the Douro valley and the Dão region of Portugal. It is the flagship grape of the Douro Valley, and is conisdered as one of the elite grapes used in the production of Port. It has also recently become a highly celebrated grape for the production of fine, dry reds.
The tiny berried bunches produce deep, concentrated tannic wines. The variety is suseptabile to poor fruit-set, which made it unpopular in the past. Through research and clonal selection, however, more productive cultivars are now being grown.Typically Touriga Nacional will be blended with other indigenous Portuguese varietes such as Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz.
