About Champagne Maurice Choppin

Champagne Maurice Choppin is an exciting grower-producer in the Vallée de la Marne, combining seven generations of family tradition with a distinctly contemporary, terroir-led approach. Based in Damery, just west of Épernay, the estate is today led by Benjamin Choppin, working alongside his wife Marine and continuing a family history deeply rooted in the village.

The domaine farms approximately 6–6.5 hectares, with mature vineyards planted to the three principal Champagne varieties: Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Meunier has an important place in the vineyards, but Benjamin increasingly focuses on expressing individual parcels and the distinctive chalk and limestone-influenced terroirs of Damery. The estate has held Haute Valeur Environnementale certification since 2018, with vineyard work centred on soil health, biodiversity and minimal chemical intervention.

In the cellar, Choppin follows a low-intervention philosophy. Grapes are harvested at full maturity, fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, and wines are largely vinified and matured in oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally, ageing on the lees is extended, and dosage is kept extremely low, typically around 0–3 g/l.

The range includes Les Arpents, Les Mi-Côtes and the vintage Damery bottling, alongside highly distinctive single-parcel Champagnes such as Épinette de Champagne, a Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs, and Les Bas Russelets, produced from Pinot Noir.

Maurice Choppin’s Champagnes are characterful, vinous and gastronomic, combining ripe fruit and textural depth with freshness, fine oxidative complexity and mineral precision. They represent a compelling, artisan expression of Damery and the increasingly dynamic grower-Champagne movement.
