About Château d'Armailhac

Established in the heart of the Médoc region, Château d'Armailhac is a renowned wine estate that echoes with rich history and the tradition of fine winemaking. Dating back to the 18th century, it's considered one of the oldest wineries in the whole of the Médoc region.

The domain was originally named Mouton d’Armailhacq after its founding patron, Dominique d'Armailhacq. Folding seamlessly into the lush vineyard landscape, it remains a testament to the timeless allure of Bordeaux winemaking.

The Château has undergone multiple ownership transitions through its years. Notably, in 1933, it was taken over by the celebrated wine family, the Rothschilds. Their undiminished passion for viticulture brought rejuvenation to the Château, largely propelling it to the esteemed reputation it enjoys today. Subsequently, with a turnabout in 1989, it was christened Château d’Armailhac, the name that carries it forward to the present.

One cannot discuss Château d’Armailhac without noting the prime location of the vineyard. Nestled in Pauillac, Bordeaux, it enjoys the benefits of a temperate maritime climate and gravel-rich soil. This propitious combination is conducive for cultivating the distinct Bordeaux blends, notably crafting Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc varietals to perfection.

Château d'Armailhac is distinguished for its opulent and well-structured wines: a true embodiment of the classic Pauillac style. These wines, in there vintage, bear the testimony of the Rothschild family's dedicated craftsmanship and profound respect for the terroir. The wines showcase an orchestration of powerful tannins and delicate fruit nuances, leaving a lingering note of elegance on the palate.

The history, the changing ownerships, tried-and-true winemaking traditions and excellent Bordeaux grape varietals. All contribute in defining the Château d'Armailhac, making it a cornerstone in the world of fine wines.
