About François Crochet

Nestled in the picturesque village of Bué, southwest of Sancerre in France's Loire Valley, Domaine François Crochet is a highly regarded family-owned estate celebrated for its precise, elegant and terroir-driven wines. The Crochet family's winemaking heritage stretches back several generations, with François taking over the family domaine in 1998, continuing the work of his parents, Robert and Marie-Solange Crochet. Today, François manages the estate alongside his wife Carine, combining traditional craftsmanship with a progressive approach to viticulture and winemaking.

The estate encompasses approximately 12–13 hectares of vineyards, divided into more than 30 individual parcels across Bué, Sancerre, Crézancy, Thauvenay and neighbouring villages. These vineyards showcase the remarkable diversity of Sancerre's soils, from limestone-rich caillottes and clay-limestone terres blanches to distinctive flint-rich silex. Sauvignon Blanc dominates production, complemented by Pinot Noir for the estate's red and rosé wines.

Committed to sustainable viticulture, François introduced organic farming practices, achieving organic certification in 2017, with the estate subsequently embracing biodynamic methods. Vineyard work is meticulous, with careful yield management and hand harvesting ensuring exceptional fruit quality. In the cellar, traditional techniques meet thoughtful innovation, including the use of large oak vessels and amphorae to preserve purity and terroir expression.

Today, Domaine François Crochet is recognised for producing beautifully balanced Sancerre wines distinguished by their freshness, mineral precision and remarkable sense of place.
