About Massican

Massican is a small but influential Napa Valley winery created in 2009 by winemaker Dan Petroski. Petroski, who once worked in publishing, was inspired by a harvest stint in Sicily that sparked his love of Italy’s crisp, aromatic white wines. Determined to bring that same energy to California, he launched Massican as a project dedicated to fresh, elegant whites in a region better known for bold reds.

From the start, Massican has stood out for its unusual focus on Mediterranean grape varieties. Its signature wine, Annia, is a Friuli-style blend of Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, and Chardonnay, while Gemina features southern Italian grapes like Greco and Falanghina. The winery also produces vibrant Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, all crafted with an emphasis on acidity, minerality, and balance. These wines are designed for the table, echoing the food-friendly traditions of Italy.

In 2023, E. & J. Gallo Winery acquired the Massican label, giving it the resources to reach a wider audience. While the brand now sits within Gallo’s luxury portfolio, Petroski continues to guide the winemaking and vision, ensuring that Massican remains true to its roots as Napa’s champion of Mediterranean-style white wines.
