Stargazer

Stargazer is one of Tasmania’s most respected boutique wineries, established in 2012 by winemaker Samantha Connew after an extensive international career spanning Oregon, Europe, McLaren Vale and the Hunter Valley. Originally from New Zealand, Connew was attracted to Tasmania’s exceptional cool-climate fruit and began the label using carefully selected vineyard parcels before evolving toward a stronger estate focus. Her vision has always centred on producing wines that capture the clarity and finesse of Tasmania’s finest sites.

The winery is based in the Tea Tree area at the northern edge of the Coal River Valley, close to Hobart. A major milestone came with the purchase of the Palisander Vineyard, an 11-hectare site rooted in brown dermosol soils over Jurassic dolerite. This distinctive terroir allows for slow, even ripening and gives the wines their hallmark tension, mineral drive and precision. Under Connew’s ownership, the vineyard has been further developed with meticulous farming and a clear emphasis on expressing site character.

Stargazer’s range is firmly focused on small-batch cool-climate wines, with standout releases including Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, as well as more individual blends such as Tupelo, a layered white blend, and Rada, a refined red blend featuring Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir. The style is defined by purity, bright natural acidity and elegant structure, placing Stargazer among Tasmania’s leading contemporary producers.
