Swiftsure by Man O' War

Man O' War Vineyards launched the Swiftsure project as a bold South Island extension of its pioneering Waiheke Island wine philosophy. Developed from vineyards in Marlborough and Central Otago’s Bannockburn sub-region, Swiftsure reflects the winery’s ambition to explore cooler-climate terroirs while maintaining the adventurous spirit that defines Man O’ War. The name “Swiftsure” references a historic boat that once carried gold miners and mail across Cook Strait, symbolising the journey from the North Island to the South.

The project focuses on low-yielding, high-altitude vineyards capable of producing elegant yet powerful wines with strong regional character. Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and Bannockburn Pinot Noir form the core of the range, crafted with an emphasis on purity, texture and site expression. Longtime Man O’ War winemaker Duncan McTavish leads the project alongside viticulturist Sam Taylor, bringing decades of experience from Waiheke’s steep coastal vineyards to the alpine landscapes of the South Island.
