About Terrazze dell'Etna

Sicilian native Antonio Bevilacqua, an engineer by trade, founded Terrazze dell’Etna in 2008 with the aim of revitalising and restoring the abandoned terraced vineyards on the slopes of Mount Etna to produce some of Sicily's finest wines.

Today, Antonio’s daughter Alessia manages the estate’s 40 hectares of vineyards, alongside 20 hectares that they rent. The vineyards are all located on the northwest side of Etna at between 600 and 950 metres above sea level. The elevation ensures warm days and cool nights, while the volcanic soil limits vine vigour and yields, producing wines of great intensity and lovely perfume. Although the vineyards are planted predominantly with Nerello Mascalese, they also grow a small amount of Nerello Cappuccio to help soften the natural tannins of this robust Sicilian grape, and some parcels of the indigenous white grape Carricante.

Alessia works alongside consultant oenologist Roberto Muccifori in the sustainable winery. Roberto successfully combines the intensity of the grapes grown on Etna with a freshness and definition that few others have achieved.
