About the Winery

Grattamacco

Nestled on the captivating hills of the Tuscan coast lies the Grattamacco winery, the second ever winery established in the breathtaking Bolgheri DOC. Inaugurated in 1977, it's an idyllic blend of tradition and innovation, wrapped in a stunning landscape that rolls out over 100 hectares, from the foot of Castagneto Carducci to the sea.

This wine marvel stands at an altitude of 100 meters above sea level, benefiting immensely from the peculiar blend of the microclimate. The co-existence of the sea's mild spell and the summer heat mitigates the extremes of the changing climate and tempers the vintage variations.

That's not all. One cannot undervalue the soil's unique composition - a diverse mixed bag of variously calcareous sands, clay, and marl, which essentially influence the structure and tone of the Grattamacco's wines, meticulously crafted to preserve the organoleptic characteristics.

The vineyards, dense with the lush green of grapevines, extend over a sprawling 15 hectares, the glory of carefully selected varieties, ranging from the robust flavours of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangivoese, to the delicate whispers of Vermentino.

Grattamacco winery is genuinely committed to sustainable viticulture. It's enthralling to see organic practises preserved and implemented across the verdant vineyards and in the cellars, ensuring minimal intervention in the wine's natural expression and thwarting the use of chemical additives.

Within the cellars, French oak barrels prevail, honouring the essential ageing process for robust wines and giving them their notable tannic backbone and a characterful finish. The mature wines signify elegance, boasting an exceptional balance between structure and softness, laced with complex and persistent aromatic tones.

Visitors get to relish an all-encompassing experience at Grattamacco winery, from vineyard tours to traditional Italian fine dining matched with an array of sumptuous wines and, of course the excitement of wine tasting. Thus, at every turn, Grattamacco winery is a reflection of the romance of winemaking, resonating with centuries of tradition and innovative flair.
