Product Notes

The Tenuta J. Hofstätter Barthenau Vigna S. Urbano Pinot Nero wine is an exquisite Italian masterpiece. Harvested in the pristine vineyards of South Tyrol, this Pinot Nero exhibits robust complexity and depth. Its elegantly polished texture reveals ravishing layers of wild berries and earthy undertones. Brilliant, ruby-red in colour, the wine offers a unique balance between acidity and tannins, while nuanced notes of spices and herbs provide a long, compelling finish. An excellent accompaniment to red meats and mature cheeses, it is an eminently respectable representation of Italian oenological finesse.

Tasting Notes

A superb Pinot Nero, whose concentration is clearly heralded by its dark ruby colour. Initially it seems somewhat closed on the nose, but then opens up in the glass to reveal its authentic, noble Pinot Nero origins. The aroma reminiscent of sour cherry and raspberry is enhanced by a delicate hint of vanilla and spice. On the palate it shows excellent harmony with elegant acidity, well-integrated sweet tannins and enormous concentration of aromas.

About the Winery

Tenuta J. Hofstätter

Tenuta J. Hofstätter is an exceptional winery, nestling in the heart of Italy's northern Alto Adige region. Famous for its bespoke and diverse range of wines, this charming winery boasts over a century of rich history and is widely respected for the calibre of its produce.

The winery was founded in the 1900s by Joseph Hofstätter, a passionate vintner who grew to be an influential figure in the area. Over the years, he developed the winery into a distinguished establishment, leaving an indelible imprint on the landscape of Italian viticulture. Today, the business is expertly managed by the fourth-generation descendants of Hofstätter, who continue to uphold the commitment to quality, authenticity, and innovation that their progenitor embodied.

Tenuta J. Hofstätter harnesses the unique terroir of the Alto Adige - a region characterised by its striking contrasts between Mediterranean and alpine climates. The winery owns vineyards across various microclimates and altitudes, which in turn, imparts unique characteristics to each bottle of wine produced. Its vast portfolio includes a stunning variety of red and white wines; including, but not limited to, Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer, and Lagrein.

The riverside Villa Barthenau, a historic jewel in the Hofstätter wine estate crown, is home to the Pinot Nero vineyards. Here, the grapes are cultivated with meticulous attention and respect for nature, resulting in wines of unrivalled elegance, depth and complexity.

Highlighting their dedication to the environment and sustainable agriculture, the winery is committed towards minimising chemical usage and preserving biodiversity in their vineyards. On a visit to the winery, guests will be embraced by stunning scenery, the sound of clinking wine glasses, and a pervasive sense of peace.

From humble beginnings, Tenuta J. Hofstätter has grown into a beacon of Italian wine making. They continue to preserve tradition, whilst embracing innovation; to secure their place in the ever-evolving landscape of viticulture. Indeed, a visit is a must for any inquisitive oenophile. Pity it's not closer to us!
