Product Notes

Uccelliera Rosso di Montalcino is an absolutely exquisite Italian wine from the heart of Tuscany. It boasts brilliant ruby red hue, often bordering on garnet as it ages. The nose reveals an enchanting aroma of woodland berries, backed by subtle notes of leather. On the palate, it is robust yet harmonious, displaying perfect balance between its ripe red fruit flavours and firm tannins. It concludes with a persistent, delicately spicy finish that lingers beautifully. Sumptuously full-bodied, this wine perfectly complements richly flavored meats and aged cheeses. This effervescent expression of Sangiovese is indeed a delightful treat for the senses.

Tasting Notes

A sunny and beautifully pure, ripe wine, the 2021 Rosso Di Montalcino is expressive in its notes of boysenberry, black cherry, dark wet stone, and sweet herbs. Ripe but taut, with medium to full body, it offers crunchy black cherry, ripe and present tannins, snappy acidity, and a note of turned soil on the finish. It is a well-structured Rosso with the bones to stand up to hard cheeses and steaks

About the Winery

Uccelliera

Nestled amidst the undulating hills and lush vineyards of Montalcino, the Uccelliera Winery commands a noteworthy presence in the world of Italian wine. Having produced their first vintage in 1991, the winery has flourished under the discerning eye of Andrea Cortonesi, who firmly believes in showcasing the true essence of the region with his passionate commitment to viticulture.

Uccelliera’s prime location along the southern slopes of Montalcino, coupled with Montalcino's exceptional microclimate, provides impeccable conditions for wine production. It's Cortonesi's meticulous attention to detail, combined with his dedication to nurturing the land, that allows the vineyard to yield high-quality grapes. The winemaker’s deeply rooted respect for tradition is mirrored in the vineyard management and wine production processes; organic methods are utilised, to maintain soil fertility and to promote the overall health of the vineyard.

The Uccelliera Winery is particularly well-known for its exquisite Brunello di Montalcino. This remarkable wine, aged for five meticulous years, is praised for its rich, bold flavour and intricate layering of fruity and earthy notes. The ageing process all takes place in oak barrels, with the finished product being a wine that beautifully represents the unique terroir of this Italian region.

Other offerings from Uccelliera include its Rosso di Montalcino, crafted from the same Sangiovese grapes as the Brunello but met with a shorter ageing process, it too, garners widespread recognition for its softer, more immediate expression of the Montalcino terroir.

It's no exaggeration to say that the Uccelliera Winery stands as a beacon of excellence in Italian winemaking. It takes the user on an enchanted journey. Guided by the hands of a focused, dedicated winemaker, indulging in glasses from Uccelliera Winery’s collection is more than just imbibing wine, it's a heartfelt experience infused with history, character and the passion of Italian viticulture. A visit to the winery it's more than a mere tour but rather, a captivating voyage of discovery.
