Bastianich

Joe Bastianich is a highly successful restaurateur who is considered to be one of the greatest personalities in Italian and American cuisine and gastronomy. He also makes wine. Azienda Agricola Bastianich was founded in 1997 in the Colli Orientali DOC of Friuli in the north east of Italy. This is where Joe's parents where born. The estate has 40 hectares of vines over the Buttrio and Premariacco hills, and the Cividale del Friuli hills, planted on terraced vineyards. The ponca soils here are unique, composed of marl and sandstone of Eocene origin, rich in marine fossils, and produce wines with a strong personality, and compelling mineral structure. Bastianich specialise in local grape varieties, notably Friulano and Ribolla Gialla, which Joe calls the “Super Whites” of the region, and use a minimum-intervention approach to let the distinctive terroir of the area speak through the wines. The signature style of Bastianich is pure, crisp and aromatic. The Tre Bicchieri award from the Gambero Rosso guide is the highest accolade for an Italian winery: it singles out a wine as one of the best Italy has to offer, and their Vespa Bianco has received this six times!
