May 2016 - Monica Larner - The 2013 Vespa Bianco is a landmark wine that is symbolic of the region's immense wine potential. This blend of 45% Chardonnay, 45% Sauvignon and 10% Picolit offers beautiful richness and opulence with shapely aromas of stone fruit, honey, preserved lemon and toasted almond. Half of the wine is aged in stainless steel and the other half goes into 4,000-liter Slavonian oak casks.

Intense, brilliant straw yellow. Full-on ripe white fruit peach fruit laced with brioche notes and hints of vanilla. It may contain Sauvignon Blanc but this is not really aromatic on the nose. Precise lemony acidity frames a full-bodied fruit palate. Quite ambitious but pulled off in style. Serious stuff and worthy of ageing. (WS)

Top Values 2016 No 33 - This is one of the best Vespas I have had in a long time. Medium-to full-bodied, linear and racy. Gorgeous and flavorful finish. Spice and almond undertones. Complex wine. Blend of chardonnay, sauvignon and picolit.

Vinification Notes

Chardonnay and Sauvignon: each variety is vinified separately in 50% 4000-liter oak ‘botti’ and 50% stainless steel. The Picolit ferments in 500 liter Tonneaux. Malo- Lactic fermentation is limited to 50%. Following vinification, the wines rest in their respective vessels for almost a year on the lees, after which they are blended to create Vespa Bianco.
