About Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard

Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard has been led by Caroline Lestimé, Jean-Noël’s daughter, since 1989. The 12.5-hectare estate has been certified organic since 2014 and is also farmed according to biodynamic principles. Most vineyards lie in the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet, with an additional site, Clos Bortier, in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, planted in 2015 just above Saint-Aubin.

The domaine produces low-intervention wines that express site with precision and purity. Whole-bunch pressing, fermentation in lightly toasted oak (up to 30% new) and extended ageing result in wines marked by subtle reduction, crystalline fruit and excellent ageing potential.

The Chassagne-Montrachet ‘Les Chaumes’, though a villages wine, borders Premier Cru ‘La Boudriotte’ and offers striking intensity and Puligny-like tension. The Premier Crus build in richness and depth: ‘La Boudriotte’ is supple and floral, while ‘Les Caillerets’ is more restrained, flinty and finely balanced. Produced in minute quantities, the Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is exceptional, combining nutty, textured fruit with remarkable length.

Chassagne’s historic affinity with Pinot Noir is reflected in the Chassagne-Montrachet ‘Cuvée L’Estimée’ Rouge, a poised and structured wine with balanced fruit and elegance.

The domaine also produces Crémant de Bourgogne. ‘Grand Lys’ is a Blanc de Noirs from Pinot Noir grown in Clos Bortier, aged three years on lees for richness and complexity, while ‘Lys’ Rosé, made by saignée, offers vibrant acidity with delicate redcurrant and wild strawberry notes.
