About Ocampo
Ocampo is the newest Tenerife project from Jonatan García Lima, the acclaimed winemaker behind Suertes del Marqués and Bodegas Tamerán. A key figure in the new generation of Canarian producers, Jonatan is dedicated to preserving the islands’ ancient vineyards, indigenous grape varieties and traditional techniques.
The project began when the López Díaz family, long-time friends of Jonatan, invited him to create a winery on their 12-hectare estate in Tacoronte-Acentejo, the oldest DO in the Canary Islands. It is Jonatan’s first venture in this north-eastern appellation, known for its volcanic red soils and significant potential. He works with a mix of estate and grower fruit: the estate vineyards are ungrafted, organically farmed, and planted with Malvasía Volcánica, Marmajuelo, Albillo Criollo and Vijariego Negro at around 200 metres of altitude. Some parcels with international varieties are being replanted with local grapes such as Listán Blanco, while partner growers in higher areas (550–800 metres) supply old-vine Listán Blanco and Listán Negro, often trained using the traditional rastra system.
Ocampo produces four wines—two whites and two reds—made with a restrained, hands-off approach. Fermented with native yeasts and aged in Stockinger barrels or foudres, the whites (Listán Blanco and Vidueño) show freshness, texture and a saline edge, while the reds (Listán Negro and Vijariego Negro) balance volcanic character with fine structure.
Still young, the project is already attracting international attention, with the wines appearing on leading restaurant lists worldwide.
