About Schola Sarmenti
Established in 1999 by the Marra and Calabrese families, Schola Sarmenti has emerged as one of the leading names in Salento, deep in southern Puglia. The winery is located in Nardò, near Lecce on the Ionian coast, where warm Mediterranean conditions and old bush-vine vineyards define the style of the wines. The estate operates from a beautifully restored 19th-century cellar built from traditional Lecce stone, blending historic character with state-of-the-art winemaking facilities.
Schola Sarmenti is best known for safeguarding ancient alberello-trained vines, many more than 80 years old, rooted in Salento’s distinctive red, limestone-rich soils. The winery champions native southern Italian grapes, with a strong focus on Primitivo and Negroamaro, supported by varieties such as Fiano, Malvasia and Susumaniello. The wines are bold, generous and deeply expressive, combining ripe dark fruit with freshness, spice and a savoury Mediterranean edge. Iconic labels including Diciotto, Nerio Riserva, Cubardi and Roccamora have helped position Schola Sarmenti among the benchmark producers of modern premium Puglian wine.
