Tasting Note

Deep ruby red in colour, with an intense and expressive nose of violets, ripe cherries and plums, underpinned by subtle earthy and mineral nuances. The palate is beautifully pure and energetic, combining vibrant red and dark fruit with a broad, silky texture and fresh acidity. Fine tannins provide structure without heaviness, while the amphora ageing brings depth and complexity. Long, precise and mineral on the finish, with remarkable purity and persistence. A distinctive and sophisticated expression of Gamay.

Product Notes

Domaine Jean-Claude Lapalu's Alma Mater Amphora wine is an exceptional French red, acclaimed for its organic and natural production process. Originating from the distinguished Beaujolais region, this vibrant libation is visually pleasing with a notable fluidity. It delights the senses with a rich berry bouquet, revealing nuances of raspberry and strawberry, accompanied by a hint of spice. This limited production wine, matured in clay amphora, boasts a sumptuously fresh, structured palate, offering a delightfully long, balanced finish. Best savoured with hearty dishes, the Alma Mater Amphora epitomises the artisan winemaker’s signature boundary-pushing style.

About the Winery

Domaine Jean-Claude Lapalu

Domaine Jean-Claude Lapalu is based in Saint-Étienne-la-Varenne, in the southern Beaujolais, close to Mont Brouilly and within the Brouilly, Côte de Brouilly and Beaujolais-Villages appellations. The domaine covers around 12 hectares, predominantly planted with Gamay on the region’s characteristic granite soils. Many of the vines are old, with a significant proportion around 60–80 years old.
