Santa Rita

Viña Santa Rita has a rich heritage, founded in 1880 by Chilean businessman and politician Don Domingo Fernández Concha, in Alto Jahuel in Chile's Maipo Valley. He was a pioneer who brought French grape varieties, specialist equipment, and French winemakers who introduced new technologies as yet unknown in Chile, resulting in wines that were far superior to what the country was producing at the time. At the end of the 19th century Domingo Fernández Concha's son-in-law Vicente García Huidobro took over, and the company continued to be run by members of the García Huidobro family until the mid-1970's. In 1980 Santa Rita became part of the Claro Group, who implemented a range of technical innovations, and the export of Chilean wines to global markets began. Santa Rita expanded and in 1987 acquired Carmen, Chile's oldest winery, founded in 1850. In 1990 Santa Rita became an open corporation, and by this time the winery had gained a reputation for its award-winning wines. In 1997 they expanded into Argentina, with the acquisition of Viña Doña Paula in Mendoza. Santa Rita farm sustainably - sustainability underpins their whole philosophy and they were the first wine group to be certified under Wines of Chile Sustainability Code, which is one of the most comprehensive assessments in the world, covering viticulture, estate facilities, community impact and tourism practices. Today Santa Rita have more than 3,000 hectares under vine in some of Chile's most prestigious valleys: Limari 131 hectares; Casablanca 314h; Leyda 90h; Maipo 796h; Colchagua 1.043h; Curicó 458h and Maule 131h, on which they cultivate 33 different grape varieties. This diversity of sites, with their varied micro-climates, aspects, soils and grape varieties affords for a terrific portfolio of site-specific, terroir-driven wines to be produced. This distinguished producer is Chile's top selling winery, and their wines offer exceptional value for money.
